Review by carol for The First Years Home Décor Extra Tall Gate Rating: This gate is by far the most attactive and functional gate I have ever owned. It is easy to use and very sturdy. The installation is a little tricky; however, if you follow the directions, it is not that difficult. I would order another one of these gates without hesitation.

Review by J. O'Connor for The First Years Home Décor Extra Tall Gate Rating: I love the look of this gate and the ease of use. Probably one of the easiest walk through gates to use. Its great that it comes with free extensions but using one extension was too small for my doorway and 2 was way too big. I had to rig an extension with a 2x4 just so the gate was in securely. Have been through a few different gates and i have to say overall I am most happy with this one.

Review by dlkw for The First Years Home Décor Extra Tall Gate Rating: After researching walk-thru baby gates until my head was spinning - I bought this one because they had it at my local Target and it looked cool. So glad I got this one. I am using it at the top of the stairs to separate two cats from two Golden Retrievers. (I know that manufacturer does not recommend this gate for the top of the stairs, but there are no children in my household.) Had hoped that the baby gate situation was temporary so we have been using a battery of 'regular' baby gates, w/ mixed results. AND I was SICK of moving/climbing over them every time I wanted to go downstairs. After 5 months it does not appear the kiddies are all going to play nice - so I needed a better solution. This gate is it! My 'doorway' was exactly 36" so I needed the gate and 2 small extenders. At that it was still a tight fit - but it is secure!!! I was pleased that the extenders came w/ this gate. Have seen many that charge still extra.

Also the gate looks really nice. Which is important since it appears it is going to be a permanent fixture. I didn't want an ugly plastic one. And I really didn't want to have to drill into my walls to mount the gate.

I do wish the opening was just an inch so wider but it is certainly adequate.

Review by April for The First Years Home Décor Extra Tall Gate Rating: We bought this gate after our old one broke and I really wanted a walk through gate because it is used between the kitchen and living room so we are going back and forth quite a bit with our twins so we spent a little more and bought this one. The height is nice and tall and the metal is quite sturdy and attractive. It is pretty easy to install and you can choose to use tension mounting or secure it with screws. It also comes with 2 extensions for larger doorways. The opening mechanism isn't hard to use and because of the swing gate we can leave it installed and don't have to take it down anytime we need to get in and out (ie. bringing in groceries). This would also be a very nice gate to use with pets if you want to keep them out of a frequently used area or in our case two fat cats. Great gate and worth the money.

Review by Robert Daugherty for The First Years Home Décor Extra Tall Gate Rating: My wife and I bought this gate recently and are very pleased with the look and build quality. Functionally it seems to work fine, it was quick and easy to assemble, and simple enough to use. Unfortunately, the only drawback is that the walk-through opening is only 18" wide - doable, but considering a 30-32" average doorway you've lost well over a third of the width for walking through. This seems to be fairly common with these gates (though that dimension is hardly ever mentioned on the box or description) and I'm sure there is some structural engineering reason why it's the case, but it's simply not comfortable to walk through. This is especially true if it has to be raised slightly off the floor as it would have to be where we wanted it, because you have to step over, and a bit sideways. Doable, but not comfortable. With a little extra engineering, it seems that the walk-through section itself could have been expandable, not just the overall width.

I was not looking for a reading lamp (which this is not, even though it takes a 150-watt standard bulb), so this was exactly what I wanted. It is sturdy and well-made. I love it!
